மீனாட்சி அம்மன் கோயிலில் கும்பாபிஷேகம்

மதுரை மீனாட்சி அம்மன் கோயில் மகா கும்பாபிஷேகம் நாளை காலை 9 மணிக்கு நடக்கிறது.

மீனாட்சி அம்மன் கோயில் கும்பாபிஷேகத்திற்கான பூஜைகள் மார்ச் 26ல் துவங்கி தினம்தோறும் ஒவ்வொரு பூஜை நடைபெற்று வருகிறது. ஏப்.2ல் விநாயகர் வழிப்பாட்டோடு முதல் கால பூஜை துவங்கியது.

நாளை, அனைத்து பரிவார மூர்த்திகளுக்கும் கும்பாபிஷேகம் நடத்த இயலாததால், நேற்று காலை 5 மணியில் இருந்து 6.30 மணி வரை அம்மன் சன்னதி, சுவாமி சன்னதி, வெளி பிரகாரம், உள் பிரகாரம், 2ம் பிரகாரம் உட்பட பல்வேறு பகுதிகளில் உள்ள பரிவார தெய்வங்களான வன்னி மரத்தடி விநாயகர், துர்க்கை, மகாலெட்சுமி, வீரபத்ரர் உட்பட பல்வேறு தெய்வங்களுக்கு கும்பாபிஷேகம் நடைபெற்றது. இந்நிகழ்ச்சியில் ஆயிரக்கணக்கான பக்தர்கள் கலந்து கொண்டனர்.

இதனைத் தொடர்ந்து காலை 9.30 மணியில் இருந்து விசேஷசந்தி, எட்டாம் கால பூஜையுடன் பூர்ணாஹ‌த்தி நடைபெற்றது.

மாலை 5 மணிக்கு விசேஷசந்தி மற்றும் ஒன்பதாம் கால பூஜை நடைபெற்றது. இன்று காலை 8.30 மணியில் இருந்து ‌சிற‌ப்பு யாக பூஜைக‌ள் நடைபெறு‌கி‌ன்றன.

நாளை காலை 9.15 மணிக்கு விமானம், ராஜகோபுரங்களுக்கு சமகால மஹா கும்பாபிஷேகமும், காலை 9.30 மணிக்கு மூலவர் மீனாட்சிக்கும், காலை 9.45 மணிக்கு மூலவர் சுந்தரேஸ்வரருக்கும் கும்பாபிஷேகம் நடைபெறுகிறது.

இதனைத் தொடர்ந்து மஹா அபிஷேகம், தீபாராதனை போன்ற நிகழ்ச்சிகள் நடைபெறுகிறது. இரவு 7 மணிக்கு பஞ்சமூர்த்திகள் புறப்பாடாகி மாசி வீதி உலா வருதல் நடைபெறுகிறது

Meenakshi Temple – Towering presence over a city

One might have read about the topless towers of Ilium only in literature. The majestic towers of Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple will give an idea of what the towers of Ilium would have been, if they were real. When one thinks of Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple what comes to the mind is an image of the four majestic Rajagopurams, facing four directions. They could be seen from almost any place in the city, the more fortunate of the residents being those around the temple.

All the four Rajagopurams have nine tiers but vary in height. The tallest of them is the imposing south tower, which is easily identified even from a distance. This is said to be the only tower in south India to have a parabolic curve on all sides from top to bottom. This tower, with a height of 51.99 metres (170.6 feet) from the level of South Adi Street, has 1,511 ‘sudai’ works depicting scenes from Tiruvilayadalpuranam, Periapuranam, Kandapuranam and Dasavataram. The height of the ‘sudai’ ranges from 1.5 metres (five feet) to 4.6 metres (14 feet). Some of the interesting figures in the gopuram include the viswarupa darshan of Subramaniaswamy; Mahasadasivam with 25 heads and 50 arms; Sabari; Yakapadamoorthy; Voorthuvathandavam; and the image of Kali.

A rare ‘Panchamuka Lingam’ is also found on the eastern side of the tower, according to a temple publication. An image of Veeda Dakshinamoorthy, facing the Chithirai Street, was added to the tower in 1963. According to a Madurai Kamaraj University publication, Madurai Temple Complex, authored by A. V. Jeyachandrun, Siramalai Sevanthimoorthy Chetty constructed this tower in A. D. 1533-64.

The east gopuram, constructed by Sundara Pandyan in A. D. 1218, is 49.16 metres (161.3 feet) high and has 1,001 ‘sudai’ works of scenes from Tiruvilayadalpuranam and Periapuranam. This is the earliest among the four outer towers of the temple. Residents of the city do not use this gopuram to leave the temple as a habit, it is said.

The west gopuram was constructed by Parakrama Pandyan in A. D. 1323 as per an inscription on its wall. It is 49.77 metres (163.3 feet) in height and contains 1,145 ‘sudai’ works. Those that attract the eye are different postures of Bikshadanar and dwarapalakas. Many relics on its stone base are believed to have been buried below the surface as the road level has come up over the years. Found inside the entrance of this gopuram are Pandya’s fish crest and a verse in praise of Parakrama Pandya.

The north gopuram is the latest of the four and is popularly referred to as ‘mottai gopuram’ due to the absence of a crest for a long time. By the end of the 19th century, a ‘sikara’ was provided by Nattukottai Chettiars. The tower, which is 48.95 metres (160.6 feet) in height, was constructed by Krishna Veerappa Nayak (1572-95). This tower contains possible models of gopurams and vimanas in great architectural detail (404 ‘sudai’ works).

3. Let it cool a little bit and shape them into balls.
4. The same rule as of Peanut urundai follows.
5. The mixture should be still relatively hot to touch.

Team India rejoices over historic victory

Team India is celebrating and the entire nation is celebrating with them. Their first Test series victory on Kiwi soil after 41 years has given the MS Dhoni-led team and their fans enough reasons to rejoice.

While the Indian players rued not finishing the series 2-0 in Wellington, they were ecstatic nonetheless.

“I’m very happy. We would have been happier with a win here (Wellington). We’ll celebrate, won’t tell you how but we will,” said an excited Yuvraj Singh.

Skipper Dhoni also lavished praises on the efforts by his team throughout this tour.

“Overall, a very good team effort. Contributions came when they were needed. Wickets were on the flatter side, there wasn’t much in it for the bowlers, so they had to keep changing their plans and improvising at times.”

“We have set the benchmark. Next time when we come to New Zealand, people will expect us to win. You have achieved something that’s big but the tough part is to maintain it, to sustain it. It never gets easy for a cricketer,” he said.

The atmosphere too was “fantastic”, felt the Captain Cool. “It couldn’t get better. It was good from the very first game that we played. We lost the first couple of Twenty20 games, and then won the one-day and Test series.

“We have improved a lot, we have put in efforts. We wanted to improve in specific areas, which we did. A good learning curve for us, good exposure for some of the youngsters in the side. Overall, a very pleasing tour,” he concluded.

The seniors of the team were no lesser delighted with the team’s performance in New Zealand.

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar termed this win very special. “We have done this after 41 years. It’s very exciting,” he said.

Sachin, who aggregated 344 runs in three Tests, is also satisfied with his individual performance.

“I’m happy with how I batted, and especially, glad with the way I moved. Personally for me, we all have our own benchmarks and we do our own thing. We don’t worry about what’s happening with the other. We try and do our best,” said the champion batsman.

Rahul Dravid, who had a successful series with the bat and also broke the record for the most number of catches in Tests with 183 catches, felt India deserved to win the series.

“It’s been a terrific win. It’s been a great series. It’s nice to come here and win. I’ve been here on three tours, but it’s the first time we’ve won. So I’m really happy for the team and the boys. We deserved to win because we played better cricket,” said Dravid.

Laxman, who played a match-saving innings in the Napier Test, seconded Dravid’s opinion.

“Very satisfying that we’ve won a series for the first time. We dominated the first and third Test and when our backs were against the wall, we fought back hard in Napier,” he said.

It wasn’t all self-praise. Encomiums were showered on Team India not only by the former greats but also their opponents.

“I think you can throw Australia, South Africa and India and there is the three best teams in the world. It’s hard to distinguish between the three at the moment. India outplayed us in all departments (in the Third Test),” said New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori.

Former greats also hailed the sensational performance by the Indian cricket team.

“The way this team kept on performing was amazing. I have watched so many Indian teams over the years and I think this is one of the best we ever had,” said ex-cricketer Chandu Borde.

India’s chief selector Krish Srikkanth appreciated team’s consistency.

“This team has been performing consistently in recent times. What makes this team different is the way the boys come out with flying colours in difficult situations. They fought back against Australia in Bangalore, did the same against England in Chennai before the second Test against New Zealand in Napier,” he said.

இதைதொடர்ந்து அதிகாலை 3.30 மணிக்கு பனிரெண்டாம்கால யாக பூஜை நடந்தது. 5 மணிக்கு ஐந்து ராஜகோபுரங்கள் உட்பட 14 கோபுரங்களுக்கு கும்பநீரை சிவாச்சாரியர்கள் எடுத்துச் சென்றனர். அம்மன், சுவாமி தங்க விமானத்தில் காலை 8 மணிக்கு கும்பநீர் கொண்டு வரப்பட்டு கும்பாபிஷேக பூஜைகள் நடந்தன. காலை 9.17 மணிக்கு அறங்காவலர் குழுத் தலைவர் கருமுத்து கண்ணன் பச்சை கொடி காட்ட, “ஓம் நமசிவாயா’ என்று பக்தர்கள் முழங்க, ஒரே நேரத்தில் தங்க கோபுரங்கள் உட்பட அனைத்து கோபுரங்களுக்கும் மகா கும்பாபிஷேகம் நடந்தது. பின்னர் நீர் தெளிப்பான் இயந்திரங்கள் மூலம் புனித நீர் பக்தர்களுக்கு தெளிக்கப்பட்டது. பின்னர் மூலஸ்தானத்தில் சிறப்பு பூஜைகள் செய்யப்பட்டன.
